Etymology
From Middle Georgian შხამი (šxami), სხამი (sxami), მსხამი (msxami), from Old Georgian *სხამი (*sxami) attested as სხამეანი (sxameani, “poisonous, venomous”). Compare Mingrelian ჟღამი (žɣami, “venom; poison”), and Svan ცხამ (cxam, “spite, harm”).
