Etymology
From ვრც-ელი (vrc-eli, “vastness”) + სი- -ე (si- -e, abstract noun-forming circumfix); thus with an etymological sense of "vastness".
As often occurs with this circumfix, its addition led to the loss of the adjective ending -ელი (-eli). Compare the full form სივრცელე (sivrcele), still with the etymological sense of "vastness".
