From Sanskrit धनपति (dhanapati, literally “lord of money; lord of wealth”), from धन (dhana, “money; wealth”) + पति (pati, “chief; lord; master”); equivalent to Thai ธน (ton, “money; wealth”) + บดี (bɔɔ-dii, “chief, lord, master; owner, possessor”).
