Borrowed from Classical Persian سیب (seb), which is from Middle Persian 𐭠𐭩𐭰 (sēb) from Proto-Iranian *cáywaH. Cognate with Sanskrit सेवि (sevi), Hindi सेब (seb), Kannada ಸೇಬು (sēbu), Nepali स्याउ (syāu) and Punjabi ਸੇਬ (seb).
