Inherited from Middle Bengali দুইপর (duipor), from Sanskrit द्विप्रहर (dviprahara, “noon”, literally “second part of day”), from द्वि (dvi, “two”) + प्रहर (prahara, “part of day”). Cognate to Hindi दोपहर (dophar), Punjabi ਦੁਪਹਿਰ (duphir).
