Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit *𑀅𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀺 (*akkhi), from Sanskrit अक्षि (akṣi), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hákṣi, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hákši, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃ókʷs (“eye”), from *h₃ekʷ-. Doublet of অক্ষি (okkhi). Cognate with Assamese আখি (akhi), Odia ଆଖି (akhi), and Nepali आँखा (ā̃khā).
