Inherited from Old Marathi उन्हाळा (unhāḷā), from Sanskrit उष्णकाल (uṣṇakāla). Compare with Gujarati ઉનાળો (unāḷo). Related to उन्हाळी (unhāḷī, “summer”) (adjective).
