From the root ܢ-ܒ-ܪ-ܫ (n-b-r-š), related to kindling, from ܢܒܪܫܬܐ (naḇreštā, “candelabrum”), either from Old Persian [Term?] (/*nibrāšti-/) or from Akkadian 𒈾𒀊𒇺 (/nabliš/, “like a flame, like a light or flash”); compare Arabic نِبْرَاس (nibrās).
